The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of AIDS Research (OAR) is pleased to announce the release of the FY 2026–2030 NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research. The Plan reflects the contributions of scientific staff across NIH, members of the broader HIV community, and external experts including researchers and health care providers. NIH Strategic Plans for HIV and HIV-Related Research guide the largest public investment in HIV research, building on scientific progress and opportunities for advancing research to end the HIV pandemic. These plans provide a roadmap for the NIH HIV research program, ensuring that funds are allocated in accordance with established NIH scientific research priorities.
The FY 2026–2030 NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research consists of an overarching priority and three strategic goals corresponding to research, capacity, and operations. Each goal is defined by objectives and areas of interest for continued investment.
This is the first NIH HIV research strategic plan developed during Dr. Geri Donenberg’s tenure as OAR Director; learn more about her perspectives on the Plan in her recent blog post.
