June is chock full of health observances, and there’s a pair of national observances that we don’t want our readers to miss. Many of our male readers — and their friends, family members, and healthcare providers — are marking Men’s Health Week (June 10-16) which occurs during June’s yearly commemoration of Men’s Health MonthExit Disclaimer.

Both Men’s Health Week and Men’s Health Month aim to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.

During this week and throughout this month, men and boys are encouraged to think about their health — and to act to make positive changes in their lives. For some, getting an HIV test, getting into care, incorporating prevention tools such as PrEP, and staying in care may be important action steps.

If you need inspiration for action, check out the men in our Positive Spin series who offer some very moving video stories about their journeys with HIV. And this is a good time to use the HIV Testing Sites & Care Services Locator to find nearby HIV testing, substance use, and other services, and to show others how to use the Locator.

To learn more about these two observances, visit the pages of the Men’s Health MonthExit Disclaimer website. For more about the basics of HIV transmission, testing, prevention, and care, you can visit the HIV.gov Basics section and sign up for our blog articles.
