Topics
Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health at HHS, sat down with Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH to discuss his speech at the opening plenary of AIDS 2012Exit Disclaimer and his 31 years as a physician and leader in HIV/AIDS scientific research.
Having participated in International AIDS Conferences over the years, Dr. Fauci remarked, “some of them were gloomy...others were breakthroughs like in 1996 when we had the combination therapy... here in Washington, DC we now have in front of us the road map.”
When it comes to developing effective scientifically-proven HIV/AIDS interventions, Dr. Fauci commented, “We’ve done it. Science has given us interventions. Interventions have proven to be efficacious in trial and effective in the field. Now, the challenge is to implement that at the global level.”
