The HHS Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP) will host a webinar, Hepatitis C Prevention Opportunities among People Who Inject Drugs – Confronting the Growing Epidemic, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 – 1:00-2:00 PM (ET).

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reported cases of acute hepatitis C (HCV) have increased by 75% from 2010 to 2012 indicating an urgent need for HCV prevention information, tools and strategies. This increase is especially pronounced among young people who inject drugs (PWID) after a history of oral opioid prescription drug abuse. Webinar participants will learn about current HCV trends, new tools and prevention messages, and highlights of HCV prevention research among PWID, all of which can help stop the spread of viral hepatitis associated with drug use as prioritized by the Action Plan for the Prevention, Care, and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis. Register for the webinar today!

Presenters will include:

  • Jon Zibbell, PhD, Health Scientist and Medical Anthropologist, Prevention Branch, Division of Viral Hepatitis, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Holly Hagan, PhD, MPH, RN, Co-Director, Center for Drug Use and HIV Research, New York University and Professor, NYU College of Nursing

Speakers will discuss:

  • The trends and the changing landscape of HCV among PWID,
  • Key findings from CDC investigations,
  • Opportunities and challenges in HCV prevention,
  • Best practices and model programs, and
  • Evidence-based HCV prevention messages and activities.

We hope you can join us and be a part of this important conversation.
