March 10
March 10, 2026, is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD). It’s a significant day to recognize the impact of HIV and AIDS on women and girls. It’s also an observance during which we highlight the importance of taking proactive steps to help protect the health of women—and we need your help! The theme for the 2026 awareness day is "Reset Your Routine: Embracing HIV testing, prevention, and care as part of your health journey.”
Help us empower women by informing them about tools for preventing and treating HIV:
- Testing. Knowing one’s HIV status is critical. About 13% of people in the United States who have HIV do not know it. That’s why regular testing is key. Knowledge is power, so getting tested regularly helps a woman protect her own health and the health of her partner. Get helpful reminders about who should get tested and more info about HIV testing to share with patients and community members.
- HIV prevention medicine. If a woman tests negative for HIV, advise her that she can use pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV. Talk to her about the differences between PrEP and PEP and which might be right for her.
- HIV treatment medicine. If a woman tests positive for HIV, she can use this knowledge to take action to get HIV medicine called ART, or antiretroviral therapy. ART helps suppress the virus to keep it from affecting a woman's body as much, which can help her live a long, healthy life. ART can also help prevent her from giving HIV to a partner and can help prevent HIV from being passed from a mother to her baby.
