In preparation for World AIDS Day 2015, HIV.gov spoke with Ambassador-at-Large Deborah L. Birx, M.D., the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy. She talked about the importance of World AIDS Day and the factors that could enable the U.S. and its PEPFAR partners to reduce the number of new HIV infections by 90% worldwide.

Dr. Birx also discussed new targets for the PEPFAR program. PEPFAR is working to “change the course” of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2017 with bold new HIV prevention and treatment targets, including for adolescent girls and young women.

We encourage you to watch a World AIDS Day video message from Dr. Ronald Valdiserri, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, Infectious Diseases, and Director of the Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
