Our final video conversation from the 2019 U.S. Conference on AIDS in Washington, DC, put the spotlight on the roles of CDC and HRSA and their grantees in Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America. We spoke with Dr. Laura Cheever, HRSA’s Associate Administrator for the HIV/AIDS Bureau, which administers the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, and Dr. Eugene McCray, Director of CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, which supports health departments, community-based organizations, and others. Dr. Cheever and Dr. McCray discussed what they had been hearing from community stakeholders at the conference, their respective agencies’s roles with the four pillars of the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative, and upcoming opportunities and activities, including funding and technical assistance for the 57 jurisdictions prioritized in the first phase of the initiative.

Dr. Cheever encouraged eligible Ryan White Part A or B programs and stakeholders in the 57 jurisdictions to pursue a Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program funding opportunity that is now open. Noting that it is the start of what is anticipated to be a five-year opportunity, she encouraged the jurisdictions to apply by the October 15 deadline to get their foot in the door. Dr. McCray also shared information about CDC funding to support Ending the HIV Epidemic planning and implementation activities.
