Today marks the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), through which millions of Americans have gained new benefits and protections.

To mark the occasion, President Obama issued this statement and the White House released a 5th year Anniversary Report showing how the ACA is working to improve the affordability, accessibility, and quality of health care nationwide.

In addition, HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell issued this statement and HHS released a report showing that as a result of Marketplace coverage and Medicaid expansion, hospital uncompensated care costs have been reduced by an estimated $7.4 billion in 2014, compared to what they would have been in the absence of the coverage expansion. HHS also released a report detailing the economic impact of Medicaid expansion. Read the two reports here.
