Health insurance can be a bit confusing at first for individuals who are new to health care coverage. However, there are many excellent resources to help consumers understand how to make the most of it.From Coverage to Care (C2C) is an initiative developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to help consumers understand their health coverage and connect to primary care and the preventive services that are right for them.

C2C offers print resources and videos that explain what health coverage is and how to use it to access primary care and preventive services. Resources include sample explanations of benefits, and charts comparing what to expect from a primary care provider versus the emergency department. Materials are available in multiple languages, such as Spanish, Russian, Haitian Creole, Chinese, and Arabic.

There are many ways for organizations—including those serving individuals at risk for and living with HIV—to get involved with C2C:

  • Share the Resources—Distribute C2C tools at health clinics, community centers, and other locations to help new enrollees and other patients make the most of their coverage and access preventive services to support their health goals.
  • Plan an Event—Host a community event to help educate individuals about how health care coverage works.
  • Spread the Word—Share C2C resources on social media using the hashtag #CoveragetoCare.
